Community UMC Sunday 9:30 AM
Community United Methodist Church serves the south-side of Portsmouth. The church is located at 37 Cherry Road in the Shea Farms area of the city. It is a community church that sits off Portsmouth Blvd but is well worth finding. The worship style is a blend of some traditional and contemporary liturgy and traditional and gospel style music.
The Sunday worship is at 9:30am, which is great for those days when you want to worship and spend the rest of the day with your family. If you choose, we have childcare available during the service or children are welcome to join us. We have Sunday School to follow worship at 10:45.
On Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 except in the summer months, we have Kid’s Club for ages 4 to 11. They experience a Bible story, craft, snack and time to play each week. We often have events for the parents and the adults such as a pizza party, cookouts at Portsmouth City Park, and we love to see our parents participating in the Club with their children. We also have a yearly Vacation Bible School so check back soon for the date.
For the women, we have tw groups that frequently meet for Bible Study and a time of friendship. The Ellen Bailey Circle meets once a month and its location varies so you have to check our calendar or contact the church. The “Lenten Lunch Ladies” meets the 1st Monday of the month at a local restaurant at 11:30. The United Methodist Women do not meet on a regular schedule, but they come together when ever they plan projects, yard sales, or just for fellowship so please keep a watch on the calendar for their events as well. The men are a work in progress; we could use a little help to get going if you would like to join us.
Why come to Community? We are a small church in the neighborhood, everyone can quickly become your friend, and it doesn’t take long to learn everyone’s name. We are concerned for, and love one another. We share in each other’s good times and trials and we try to help each other keep going in life, in other words, we do church the way Jesus and the disciples did it.
