Obituary for Robert “Pork Chops” Collins, Jr.
Robert “Pork Chops” R. Collins, Jr., 99 joined his wife Shirley Derby Collins in heaven on February 20, 2021. Robert and Shirley were married for 56 glorious years before her passing in 2004. Pork Chops was a life-long member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church until its closure in 2016 and is currently a member of (Aldersgate) New Creation U. M. C.
Pork Chops was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, 4 brothers, son-in-law Michael Putnam and a special friend Louise Chapman. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Blake (Frank) and Anne Putnam, grandchildren, Michael Quadros (Sarah), Nathan Dillon, Amanda Pulsifer (Matt), and Beth Hill (Derrick) and 8 great-grandchildren. Robert was “Pop Pop” to all the grands.
Pork Chops was a Naval Veteran of WWll and also served in the Army. He retired after 36 ½ years of service in 1977, from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop #11. He was proud to be a Mason and served as Past Master of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge #273, Past High Priest Port Norfolk Chapter #36, 33deg. Scottish Rite Mason of the Portsmouth Valley, Chapter #99 Allied Masonic Degree, Past Sovereign Master, a member of the VA Research Lodge, VA Research Royal Arch Chapter, Past Worthy Patron for 7 times in the Esther Chapter #37 Order of the Eastern Star. He was an avid duck pin bowler. He bowled in the Sunday School League and retired after 76 years.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Stan Brittman and nurse Rita for 40+ years of their wonderful care.
A funeral service with Military Honors, Masonic and Eastern Star Rites will be held at 1pm Saturday at New Creation United Methodist Church 4320 Bruce Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321. The family will receive friends in the church at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private.
